This style of bodywork is different from what most people think of as massage. Thai Massage blends styles from Asian neighbors passed down through the generations. Unlike the scooping and continuous strokes of Western massage, Thai massage techniques (using the thumbs, elbows, palms, forearms, feet, and knees) include: rocking, rhythmic muscle compression, assisted yoga positions, stretching and working along energy meridians.
Thai massage is practiced fully clothed on a floor mat without oils or lotions. A session is practiced very slowly (sometimes for more than two hours), in a choreographed "dance" as the practitioner moves the receiver around the mat, creating a relaxed, meditative state for both.
Thai massage can be particularly helpful in facilitating relaxation, improving circulation, increasing flexibility (passive yoga postures), and relieving pain and muscle tension association with such conditions as: headaches/migraines, arthritis, fibromyalgia, neck & back pain, and sciatica.
